Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit of talented 18-year-old midfielder and Manchester City target Sverre Nypan, according to reports. Nypan has already made 50 appearances for Norwegian side Rosenborg is rated as one of Europe’s most promising young players.
The teenager could be available for a modest £10million fee, with a January move more feasible as the window falls during the Norwegian off-season. The Athletic report that while no agreement or firm decision has been made on Nypan’s future, Arsenal are advancing in discussions with his club as well as the player’s representatives.
The report adds that Arsenal are hopeful that his relationship with fellow coutryman Odegaard could help influence Nypan’s decision. Any deal would likely see the teenager come straight into Mikel Arteta’s immediate first-team despite his relative inexperience.
City are also said to be interested in the midfielder, with other reports suggesting he was due to fly into Manchester in the coming days for talks with the Premier League champions. However, while Arsenal would view Nypan as an immediate addition to their first team, City are instead said to be keen to loan the midfielder out to one of their sister clubs first.
Arsenal have already seemingly beaten City to the signing of Martin Zubimendi, with the Real Sociedad midfielder in the final stages of completing a deal to join the Emirates in the summer. However, the Gunners are still in the market for more additions this month, especially after the long-term injuries picked up by Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka.
