Gladiators was halted minutes into the show airing before Barney Walsh delivered some "record-breaking" news to fans. The beloved BBC show returned to screens on Saturday night (February 1) with Bradley and Barney Walsh back at the helm. For the latest instalment, a brand new batch of contenders took on the superhuman Gladiators, in the ultimate test of strength and endurance. And in the first challenge, it was Mustapha and Lewis up against Phantom and Steel in The Ring - in which they had to try and touch the ring as many times as possible, without getting knocked over by a Gladiator. However, things took an awkward turn as the show was halted.

During the game, the contenders were chased around by the Gladiators, who did whatever they could do drag them down onto the floor. But in an awkward moment, the referee was forced to step in and assist Steel to tie his shoelace - before giving the green light for the game to go ahead. What’s more, shortly after, and before the second challenge, Barney had some big news to share with fans. He welcomed contender Amanda onto the stage, and hearing the round of applause from the audience, he said: “Wow. I have to address this. It sounds like you’ve got some fans here tonight.”.

Amanda replied: “Just a few 160 of them,” to which Barney quipped: “How much?!” She then said: “160, let me hear you!” Gobsmacked, Barney added: “This is definitely a Gladiators record, having this many people in!”. Meanwhile in other Gladiators news, it was recently reported that the BBC show has been renewed for a third series. A source told The Sun that the current season has been "so well received" that it was a "no brainer" for bosses to commission a third series.
