BBC viewers are in for a treat this year as a brand-new six part drama is set to air. Riot Women follows the lives of five ladies who decide to come together to enter a local talent show as a makeshift punk-rock band. However, when the group start writing their first song it isn’t long until they realise they have a lot to say. The band soon becomes a catalyst for change in their lives as they all juggle the strains of children, complicated parents, demanding jobs and husbands.

While their music makes them question everything, BBC viewers will witness the testament to the power of friendship, music, and the resilience of women who won’t be silenced by age or expectation. A description for the upcoming drama reads: “As the story progresses, it’s more than music that binds them; a deeply potent, long-buried secret begins to surface.

"One that unexpectedly entangles Kitty and Beth, the two unlikely creative masterminds behind the band, in a complex triangle - and threatens to tear everything apart.”. The BBC has shared a glimpse at what people can expect to see in the series with the band in full swing. It features the likes of Joanna Scanlan, who plays Beth, Rosalie Craig, who takes on the role as Kitty and Tamsin Greig as Holly.

Also starring in the series is Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess and Amelia Bullmore in the role of Yvonne. Joining the band as backing singers include actresses Taj Atwal, Chandeep Uppal and Macy-Jacob Seelochan as Nisha, Kam and Miranda. In one of the images, it shows a bandmember on top of a posh sports car which had been wrecked. With the words ‘Bile’ spray painted in red, the women is holding a sledgehammer in preparation to do more damage.
