Fans of the Traitors have donated more than £30,000 after finalist Alexander Dragonetti opened up about his family being supported by a charity. Alexander, 38, had competed on the third series of the BBC show, which concluded last week. He was banished in the final, which ended up being won by Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown, who split the £94,600 prize fund, though.

Earlier in the series, the former diplomat shared his plans to give a donation to charity should he win. Alexander spoke of his ambition whilst discussing his late brother, whom he said had global developmental delay and autism. Amid a dinner party with co-stars, Alexander shared that he had been in his mid twenties when his late sibling died aged 17 more than two decades ago. He also paid tribute to his brother and their parents on the BBC show.

Speaking about his experience, Alexander told his co-stars: "I would like to give some money to a charity that I really care about. My brother had special needs and used to go to like a summer camp. And I'd love to put some money their way to keep it going because it gives parents a break.".

He added: "My parents did an incredible job with my brother and for them to get a break, for even a week a year, looking after someone with special needs ... which is like a ... it can be a challenging job. I thought was just a brilliant thing for my brother and a brilliant thing for my family, and I'd like to keep that kind of thing going.".

Although finalist Alexander didn't name the charity in the scene, PA reports that he had been speaking about Mencap, which supports people with learning disabilities and their families. And although he didn't manage to win the Traitors, he's said to have inspired fans to donate more than £30,000 to the charity after they heard his story.
