Tesco's ‘Every little helps’ has been voted the nation’s favourite ad slogan. The supermarket’s catchy motto first appeared in commercials in 1993, and was credited with attracting 1.3 million new customers in the following two years. Trade magazine The Grocer once called it “a contender for the best strapline in history. Its longevity demonstrates its brilliance.”.

It came top in a survey of more than 6,000 people for industry watchdog the Advertising Standards Agency. Runner-up strapline from the YouGov poll was sportswear giant’s ‘Just Do It’, followed by McDonald’s ‘I’m Lovin’ It’, and Heinz’s famous ‘Beanz Meanz Heinz’.

Others include the hard-to-forget ad tune ‘Washing machines live longer with Calgon!’ along with instant mash brand’s ‘For mash get Smash’ from the 1970s. Guy Parker, chief executive of the ASA said: “Ads have the unique power to connect with people and this list of the UK’s most memorable ad slogans reminds us of just how iconic some slogans, straplines and campaigns have become. “These slogans aren’t just marketing tools, they’ve become part of our language, humour and shared experiences, reflecting the essence of British culture.
