The return of the high street, artificial intelligence and augmented reality and 1990s inspired products will be some of the biggest consumer trends of 2025, according to experts. New electricals that could also be a hit are hybrid air fryers such as ones that come with blenders, or smart products which are voice activated.

Energy drinks are also going to be all the rage, while Britons are also expected to choose quality over quantity too in a return to more buying of luxury treats such as artisan chocolates. The Mirror asked experts to reveal all about the six main trends you need to look out for in the year ahead.

The return of the high street. After years of decline - and almost 7,000 high street shop closures in the first half of 2024 - consumers are set to return to bricks and mortar stores and shopping centres. This trend was spotted in this year's Boxing Day sales, when data from Barclays found a quarter of Britons were planning to spend most of their sales budget in-store, up 11% year-on-year.

Barclays said this trend indicates a growing appreciation for physical retail experiences, with 29% of those who intend to spend more in-store motivated by the human interaction. Meanwhile more online retailers than ever charge for returns, so shoppers are more likely to save if they buy goods in-store.

Surprisingly, social media is also behind the high street revival. Matthew Hopkins, founder of IND!E, a firm which helps brands tap into emerging shopping habits, told The Mirror: "Going shopping in person as a leisure activity is making a comeback - partly due to social media. For next year we've been working with brands on activations so, for example when people walk into a department store they will receive an immersive experience that will reflect something trending on social media.
