Britain's Got Talent winner Sydnie Christmas stunned by King Charles' surprising question

It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for Sydnie Christmas. Speaking to me exactly a year after she auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, Sydnie is already preparing to head out on her first tour. Since taking the ITV contest by storm, the 29-year-old has released her first album My Way, performed for King Charles at the Royal Variety Performance and found herself schmoozing in LA with Michael Buble and Jennifer Hudson.
But despite living the dream, Sydnie insists her feet are still firmly on the ground. She tells me: “I don’t get noticed, ever. I get on the Tube and no one bats an eyelid. I’m not that famous! I was out with Harry Clark and Paul Gorton from The Traitors last summer – they’re my friends. Everyone recognised them, but not me. They thought that I was their manager.”.
Sydnie had spent four years toying with the idea of auditioning for BGT before finally taking the plunge. But she admits: “The show has changed my life – 2024 has been the best year yet.” One highlight was singing for King Charles at the Royal Albert Hall last month. The monarch also chatted to Sydnie at the event. She tells me with a smile: “It was like talking to your grandad.
“The King looks like his mum. He’s small, with big hands. I was so impressed. He said, ‘Were you the girl that won the contest?’ I went, ‘Yeah’. I loved how normal he was.” In another ‘pinch- me’ moment, Sydnie was asked to perform at an LA fundraiser organised by hotshot record producer David Foster. She recalls: “I walked in and Jennifer Hudson was singing I Will Always Love You. Then Michael Buble jumped on the stage. I went up after him. Michael ran backstage and lifted me up. It was pukka… they’re just normal people. Hopefully they’ll be my mates one day.”.
