In a throwback to a 2016 episode of BBC's Antiques Road Trip, experts Anita Manning and Raj Bisram were on the hunt for hidden treasures. Anita snagged an Eastern bronze deity for a mere £50, but little did she know it would cause quite a stir at auction. The auctioneer, Mark, hinted at pre-sale interest, and as the bidding kicked off at an impressive £1,000, both Anita and Raj were left gobsmacked.
He commented: "Blimey!" Meanwhile, the show's voiceover couldn't hide their shock as they added: "Oh my gosh!". The bids soared, and Anita couldn't help but acknowledge her sharp instincts. Raj was seen clapping Anita in celebration as the voiceover announced a record-breaking profit for the show—a feat later surpassed by Paul Laidlaw's £60 camera that fetched a staggering £20,000. Amidst the auction frenzy, Anita wondered aloud: "Where is it going to stop?" She playfully teased Raj, saying: "I think you're right out of the game now!".
Raj, unable to contain his laughter, agreed: "I'm on a different planet. It's fantastic." Anita later admitted she had a hunch the item would be a hit when she first laid eyes on it, reports the Express. She couldn't help but throw her hands in the air and cheer - with a supportive crowd echoing her enthusiasm by delivering a hearty round of applause. The astonishing sum left fellow expert Raj practically speechless, as he could only say: "The day belongs to you.".
Reflecting on her remarkable victory, Anita advised viewers with a grin: "Things like that can happen! So get out into your antique shops and keep searching.". Although Raj also savoured a modest slice of success, raking in £95.50 from the auction, it was nothing compared to Anita's game-changing haul. The voiceover highlight how this massive windfall boosted Anita's show budget to an impressive £3543.82 for the final instalment.
