Sam Asghari made a very rare comment on ex-wife Britney Spears’ conservatorship battle, admitting that it was ‘the weirdest thing to deal with’. The Traitors US star, 30, ended his marriage to the Toxic singer, 43, in 2023 – just 14 months after they got married.
He was by the pop icon’s side during the majority of her conservatorship battle, and they announced their engagement just days after she was finally freed from the controversial court order in 2021. Looking back on the strict rules that the mom-of-two was under between 2008 – 2021, during an appearance on the Sibling Revelry podcast, he explained that it was ‘the most difficult’ thing that he witnessed in their romance.
‘Everything was going really well until one day I started learning about what the conservatorship is,’ he told host Oliver Hudson. ‘That’s when I was like, “Wait a minute. I thought I’m in America. What do you mean?. ‘”What do you mean that someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?” and all these ridiculous things. I’m very new to this, everybody is, it’s such a ridiculous thing in this country to have to deal with.
‘That was by far – I’m not going to say difficult, because I don’t think anything is difficult – that was the weirdest thing to deal with. Which is really strange to say, in Hollywood and entertainment…’. For 13 years, Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears had been in control of her wellbeing and financial matters – sparking fans to start the #FreeBritney movement.
