Brits slam Americans for reaction to Robbie Williams' Better Man biopic after US flop

Robbie Williams' Better Man biopic has taken the world by storm, causing a divide as the pop legend voices his own life story through a monkey avatar. The biopic of a popstar, directed by Michael Gracey, Robbie is depicted as a CGI chimpanzee, with Jonno Davies providing the chimp's physical performance. The film dives into Robbie's journey to stardom with Take That and delves into his struggles with personal demons.
Assertions have been made hailing it as one of the most ground breaking and visually remarkable biopics ever hit the silver screen. The film's acclaim has soared in the UK with a smashing 90% Rotten Tomatoes rating and a hefty £3.8million at the box office. Yet, across the pond, the American audience appears less captivated. Just $1.1million (£908k) has trickled in stateside, missing its aimed mark by a landslide.
Social media chatter has been rife with Americans questioning the film's appeal. One user on X commented: "I expected this film to flop simply because they were hyping up Robbie Williams as a bigger pop star then he actually is.". They added: "Nobody outside the UK knows who he is on a household basis. Not even saying he's a bad singer.. but an international release.. not gonna work.".
Another asked: "Does anyone in America even know who Robbie Williams is?" Yet another added: "A biopic about a singer who's far from a household name in most parts of the world, portrayed as a lacklustre CGI chimpanzee, is underperforming-what a shocker!".
One viewer pointed out: "Robbie Williams has never broken America so not great surprise people aren't flocking to see it in the States is it? In the same way that if there was a movie made about the life of most country singers it probably wouldn't do great business in the UK.".
