Bruno Fernandes says Ruben Amorim's scathing verdict of the current Manchester United team was simply a case of the club's new head coach seeing red. Amorim tore into his players after last weekend's loss at home to Brighton, whose 3-1 win at Old Trafford left the Red Devils languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
The Portuguese coach's comments questioning whether United's current team could be 'the worst in history' proved to be a topic of debate in the week. But Fernandes says that even the ice-cool Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was prone to giving United's players some tough love during his tenure.
United's captain said: “To be honest for me personally it does fire me up because I don’t want to hear my manager saying certain things about the team. “I know he doesn’t feel that. I am pretty sure it’s in a moment of rage. I am Portuguese, so I know that pretty quickly the blood comes up. So it’s just in that moment.
“I was also here with Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer), one of the calmest people I ever met, and he had this sometimes. As a manager you depend on the results and sometimes you need to have these kind of words to your players. “It wasn’t anything out of context or something we didn’t deserve in the moment. He made himself part of that and when the manager makes himself part of what he’s saying, no-one can get angry or disappointed by it.”.
