Childcare worker floored after hearing food-themed baby name parents gave kid

A childcare worker has been left baffled by the name of a new student. It’s no easy task deciding on a name for a baby as parents have to consider an option suited to a sweet newborn that will also grow to suit them into adulthood. Names can be a source of judgement and lead people to make assumptions about a person, whether rightly or wrongly, so many people aim to give their child a moniker that won’t saddle them with issues later on in life.
For some people, choosing a name that appears “unique” can become their ultimate goal. This can lead to some beautiful, creative options but could to nonsensically spelled versions of common, traditional names, or those that stand out for all the wrong reasons.
Many unconventional names end up being mercilessly mocked on social media, particularly those where the spelling completely disregards phonetics. This appears to be the case for one childcare school worker who was stunned by a little girl named Jelly, only her parents had chosen to spell it ‘Jeilyi’.
On Reddit, her woman’s husband shared: “Yesterday, a new student joined the early childcare school my wife works at. She made sure to double check with the parent if there were any nicknames they use or anything to make sure she understood the pronunciation. This little girl was named Jeilyi, pronounced Jelly.”.
People were keen to share their thoughts in the comments section. One person said: “My very chubby cat is also called Jelly, very cute for a plump cat!”. Another suggested: “Just tell [your] wife to pronounce it jei-li until the toddler understands that they are not bound to their parents’ crazy.”.
