The haunting Christmas horror series, NOS4A2, is the perfect late-night watch this festive season – and it’s just landed on UK TV. The two-season show (pronounced Nosferatu) is based on the novel by Joe Hill which follows the seductive immortal Charlie Manx (Zachary Quinto) who feeds off the souls of children before trapping them in a ‘twisted, Christmas-themed village’.
When young New England woman Victoria ‘Vic’ McQueen (Ashleigh Cummings) discovers she has the power to unlock portals to lost objects, Charlie’s whole world comes under threat and the two soon become sworn enemies. The series newly arrived on ITVX – which has 20 episodes to dig your teeth into – also stars The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Vic’s beloved ‘blue-collar’ dad.
The popular adaptation, which has even been endorsed by horror novelist Stephen King, has received rave reviews since its release on AMC in 2019. ‘Quinto and Cummings put in two fine performances and the story has a prestige TV sheen that makes us want to see more,’ Decider wrote in its review of the show.
‘Cold opens don’t get much more chilling than the first scene of AMC’s new supernatural horror drama NOS4A2,’ Vulture magazine glowingly praised. ‘The best horror isn’t inhuman. It isn’t senseless. We’re truly terrified by the stories that we relate to, that resonate deep within our most unthinking and instinctual places. NOS4A2 understands this,’ Slashfilm added.
