Darts today: Day 4 of PDC World Championship matches, order of play and why no afternoon session

The PDC World Darts Championship is now up and running and the biggest names to have stood at the oche across the opening three have avoided a shock. Reigning champion Luke Humphries safely secured his spot in the next round with an easy victory against Thibault Tricole, while 2021 winner Gerwyn Price also got off to a perfect start against Keane Barry and Peter Wright overcame Wesley Plaisier.
But Queen of the Palace Fallon Sherrock was knocked out by Ryan Meikle on day three, while James Wade bowed out a day earlier in a mild surprise. The disappointing news is that there is no afternoon session on Wednesday - purely because of timing preferences - with four matches on the cards tonight. Thankfully the double session will return on Thursday.
Jim Williams and Filipino Paolo Nebrida are first to walk on stage before Latvia’s Madars Razma takes on Christian “Lipstick” Kist, a former BDO World Champion. Then fast-throwing Ricky Evans meets the Australian Gordon Mathers before the night’s big event - a second round tie between Nathan Aspinall and Leonard Gates, the dancing Texan who beat Cameron Menzies on Monday evening.
Aspinall has faced a battle with dartitis and sought help from a hypnotherapist in recent months after a tricky Premier League campaign. He told Sky: “I think everyone's seen I was open and honest about it, although I've tried to hide it for the last 18 months or two years. But I think it was important for people to understand what I've been through and I will overcome it and give hope to anyone else that's going through something similar.
