A baby girl was put in a microwave in a depraved attempt to kill her, before she was forced to eat dog food and chased around by adults wearing a devil mask. The shocking and inhumane acts were revealed as the largest prosecution of a child abuse ring in Scotland were sentenced today. Eight people who carried out extreme sex offences in a twisted cycle of "extraordinary depravity" were convicted after three brave children came children about the abuse between December 2015 and June 2019.

Judge Lord Beckett told the gang today: “This court is used to hearing some of the worst example of human behaviour but such depravity as you demonstrated is beyond my experience. Such extreme abuse seems to be rare. The children showed extraordinary fortitude, strength and stamina as investigators struggled to comprehend what you had done to them. The children’s exceptional courage and perseverance in the face of threats allowed justice to be done.”.

He said the crimes “were about as serious as it’s possible to be”, and praised the actions of a married couple who “provided respite” to the children, and said they were rescued from “desperate darkness of their earlier life”. Judge Beckett jailed seven of them today for between eight and 20 years - with all handed orders for lifelong restriction - while an eighth defendant's sentencing was deferred for a year. Eleven people went on trial at the High Court in Glasgow last year, with three - two men and a woman - acquitted.

Seven were convicted of committing sexual abuse, including rape, and four were found guilty of attempting to murder a young girl by trapping her in various places including a cupboard. Some of the victims were abused in a Glasgow drugs den where heroin and crack cocaine were used.
