Hundreds of thousands more households across Britain will be in line for a Cold Weather Payment this winter, the DWP has announced - with some receiving their third payment so far. Eligible Brits in 160 more postcode areas, including in the Home Counties, Norfolk, Essex, Kent, and Sussex, will get the new payment. It means around 170,000 low income households are set for a £25 boost to help cover their heating costs.

Payments have also been triggered to the north and south of London, but so far temperatures haven't been cold enough at Heathrow weather station to qualify for a payment in the 278 Greater London postcode areas it covers. If that threshold was met, an estimated 577,000 households would be eligible for a payment, at a one-off cost to the government of £14.4million.

The latest update includes a £25 payment to 4,000 households in Cumbria which are now in line for their third payment of the winter. The 11 postcode areas including Kendal, Keswick and Windermere will receive £75 towards their heating bills after previous cold spells in November and earlier this month.

You can see if your postcode has been affected using our interactive map, and see the full list of eligible postcodes below. Tuesday 14 January. Charlwood weather station (51,000 households). Andrewsfield weather station (47,000 households). Brize Norton weather station (18,000 households).
