WHETHER you're a classic milk drinker or enjoy a plant alternative, it's likely you keep your carton in the door of your fridge. While this might make sense for convenience, experts have warned against storage step. According to a report by The Daily Express, storage pros have advised against keeping your cartons of milk on your fridge door shelf.

Most households are guilty of this error, as keeping your milk in your fridge door makes it easier to grab when making a quick cuppa. Standing it up straight instead of lying it on its side can also reduce the chance of leaks. However, the experts at kitchen appliance company Beko, storing your milk in your fridge door can actually cost you more money.

This is because the shelf life of your milk is reduced significantly as this part of the fridge is warmer than the shelves. According to Beko, UK households bin about £250 worth of food per person every year. This is the equivalent of £1,000 worth of waste for a family of four.

"The way we organise our fridges can make or break our efforts to reduce food waste," said Salah Sun, Head of Product Management at Beko UK. "Most people don't realise that poor fridge organisation isn't just about aesthetics – it directly impacts food longevity and your household budget.".

To make your groceries last longer, experts suggest creating zones in your fridge. "Temperature fluctuates within your fridge, so storing items in the right zones is crucial," Salah Sun explained. "The bottom shelf, being the coldest, is perfect for raw meats, while the middle shelves maintain ideal conditions for dairy and prepared foods.
