Annette Bramley sheds a tear when she looks at her daughter Holly’s wedding photos. But they’re not happy tears, remembering a day she’d dreamed about ever since her little girl was born; they’re full of sadness and an overwhelming fury. Just 18 months after the photos were taken, Holly’s new husband murdered her in one of Britain’s most chilling domestic violence cases.
Annette, 65, was never invited to their wedding, or even knew it was happening. She had done everything in her power to convince her youngest daughter to walk away from Nick Metson, 28, fearing he was at best controlling and, at worst, deadly. Her fears came true.
Metson stabbed his 26-year-old wife to death in their Lincoln home in March 2023, before cutting her body into more than 200 pieces and storing them in the kitchen larder for nearly a week. Holly’s body was only discovered when a member of the public found her hand floating down the River Witham in a plastic bag 18 months later.
In her first interview following Metson’s conviction for murder last year, Annette is still furious more wasn’t done to protect her youngest daughter. ‘I knew he would kill her,’ she says, matter-of-factly, still numb with grief. ‘I told police he would murder her; I told anyone who would listen. Her family could all see it, but nobody could stop it.’.
