Navigating the world as a first-time parent can be terrifying. If you've got children, you'll probably remember the early years of their lives when you were trying to learn how to be a parent. No one gets everything right straight away, and it can be an eye-opening experience as you realise that certain things make you uneasy or scared for your child that you never considered before. One new mum has recently discovered something that made her panic after she went out for dinner with some family and friends and had an awkward encounter with someone who asked to hold her daughter. While she was happy to let them take her child off her hands for a little bit, she was left feeling uncomfortable when she asked for her back - and was told no.

The mum shared a video on TikTok in which she said she is "very fond" of the person who asked to hold her daughter, Winnie, but when dessert was served she decided that she'd like her daughter back. However, when she told the person she wanted to hold her own child, they refused to give Winnie back. She said: "I thought, 'I'll ask for Winnie back, I kinda want my baby back now'. I didn't even ask, actually. To be honest, I said. I said 'Oh, I'll take Winnie while you eat your dessert'. And they said 'No'. So I said, 'I'm going to take her now, while you eat your dessert', and they were like 'No' and shook their head.".

The 27-year-old mum even reached for her daughter, which made their friend "back away". The movement made the first-time mum panic as she felt like she needed her baby back in her arms immediately, and she was shocked by how "uncomfortable" the interaction made her. She added: "I was like 'Oh, okay, I really want my baby back now'. I didn't know what to do. What do you do in that situation? I didn't know that was a situation that would happen. It made me quite uncomfortable, as I'm realising a lot of motherhood is.".

The mum eventually got her husband to step in to take Winnie away from the friend, as he is "better at being direct" than she is. However, she believes she made herself "fairly clear" and "insisted" that she have her baby back. Commenters on the post reassured the mum by giving the friend the benefit of the doubt, with many assuming they "thought they were being helpful" by keeping hold of Winnie. Others said that in the future, she needs to just tell people to give her daughter back instead of making it seem like a favour.

One person said: "I'd like to give benefit of doubt that they just thought they were being helpful and declining you having her back so they could eat/for their sake." Another added: "Technically, you got told no for offering to take her back while that person had their dessert. The second ask should have been, 'I want her back, please hand her over'.".
