'I'm a hairdresser - if you're over 50 you need to avoid these three hairstyles'

Ageing might be a privilege, but let's face it, not everyone is thrilled about the visible signs of getting older. That's where a trip to the salon can work wonders, with the right haircut acting like a fountain of youth, dialling back the years and refreshing your look.
Thinking of sprucing up your style? It might just be the perfect time to book that cut and colour you've been pondering at your local hairdresser. Sure, some hairdos can shave off the years, but beware others can do just the opposite, reports the Express. Hair guru Ghanima Abdullah, from The Right Hairstyles, has dished out advice on which haircuts those over 50 should steer clear of unless they want to look older.
As we age, our hair tends to thin, making ultra-long hair less flattering. Ghanima advises against long tresses as they "can age you because your once full locks are now less so, and it shows". A chic lob (long bob) could be your saviour if you're not ready to go super short. Ask for some layers to keep it from looking limp.
But for those with textured hair, Ghanima warns against uniform short cuts, stating that "three-inch afros are a thing of the past" and don't have the youthful vibe of other styles. For a fresher look, she suggests growing textured hair to at least five inches with a stylish fade on the sides and back.
