Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Laura has two elder sisters. She studied history at the University of Aberdeen before chasing her dream of drama at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London. The television star began her acting journey at 14, taking on the lead role in Annie at the Phoenix Youth Theatre, followed by a stint in The Sound of Music at 15. Laura has also graced the stage in numerous productions with The Royal Shakespeare Company.
In 2017, she landed the role of Princess Fiona in the second UK tour of Shrek The Musical. Last year, she took centre stage in Steel Magnolias, sharing the spotlight with ex-EastEnders actress Lucy Speed and current Queen Vic boss Harriet Thorpe, who portrays Elaine Peacock in the show.
