James Haskell has hinted that his marriage to Chloe Madeley started to struggle after they had a child. The former rugby player opened up about his split from Chloe, which happened shortly after they filmed the ITV documentary, Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair. The show focused on the couple's challenges as new parents, but James criticized ITV for portraying him as the "villain.". In a conversation on Spooning with Mark Wogan with The Sun, James discussed co-parenting their son, Bodhi, with Chloe. He spoke highly of her, calling Chloe an incredibly talented woman who had made him a better person. He explained that their separation was ultimately about ensuring their daughter had the best life possible.
James reflected on how having a child shifts priorities, saying that personal desires take a backseat once you become a parent. He also mentioned how relationships evolve over time - careers, life circumstances, and people change - and that marriage, in particular, can sometimes feel restrictive. Host Mark highlighted that many people shy away from discussing how having a child significantly changes a relationship. James said to Mark: "That puts an enormous strain on any relationship. Of course. I think that's why it's interesting.
"We were very considered actually because we always looked at ourselves and were like, look, if you're lucky enough to have children, and you should never take that for granted, but there's a better time to have it. It's not a perfect time, it's not the right time, but there is a better time. When you're financially stable, sensible, a relationship you're working on. We want to make sure that our daughter has the best possible life.".
"And it just wasn't true. I am most hands on dad, I do everything. There's no pink jobs, blue jobs, I'm onto everything.". This comes after it was revealed earlier this month that James is reportedly dating advertising executive Helen Barclay, 34. Their pairing is said to have become more serious in recent months after the duo first connected over a year ago. It's claimed the new couple have been enjoying an increasing number of dates with each other, and also spent a lot of time at each other’s houses. James and Helen were spotted at Knightsbridge restaurant Clap as they enjoyed a romantic date night. James has also been spotted commenting on mum-of-two Helen’s Instagram photos. In some instances, the former sports star branded her "fit" as his flirtatious online behaviour heated up.
