Katie Boulter has described fellow tennis star and fiancé Alex de Minaur as her “support system” after he cheered her on at the Australian Open. The pair have been an item for nearly five years now, and both of their games have improved dramatically in that time. De Minaur is now a top-10 ranked player on the ATP, while Boulter remains five places outside the WTA’s top 20.

Now, roughly one month on from announcing her engagement to De Minaur, Boulter faced up against Rebecca Marino in what would be a hard-fought Melbourne battle. The British No. 1 won the opening set but lost the second, fighting on to prevail 7-5 during the third - but not without the help of her husband-to-be, De Minaur, who could be seen encouraging her from the crowd and living up to past supportive comments.

"He is my support system. He kind of leads me,” Boulter admitted after her victory against Marino. “Having him come out and support means.. everything to me.". Such praise and appreciation should come as no surprise, as Boulter also opened up about the pair’s relationship - and what a supportive figure De Minaur is - in December 2024, just before the question was popped.

"Anyone who has watched our journey has seen us grow together on the court and off the court,” Boulter started, speaking to Sky Sports. “For me, it's such a lovely feeling to know that everything is going well on the court, and we can still enjoy time away from the court together.

“I feel like we've really helped each other in so many different ways. Firstly, he's there for advice. He's got some credence, so I have to take his advice on board, and I don't mind listening to him once in a while. I don't know if he takes it well from me, but he knows what he's doing.
