Murillo has signed a new contract with Nottingham Forest in news that will leave Liverpool and other top clubs disappointed. The Brazilian centre-back, 22, has been one of the stars behind Forest's unlikely rise under Nuno Espirito Santo, who has them sitting joint-second in the Premier League alongside Arsenal.
Forest were tipped by many for another season of struggle after flirting with relegation last year. But they have defied all expectations this term, with Murillo playing a key role in their superb defensive record which is only bettered by the two teams above them.
Arne Slot's team are known to be among Murillo's many admirers. But the centre-half has now put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with Forest. The agreement, which was first revealed by The Mail, means the Reds and Murillo's other suitors are unlikely to be able to prise him away from The City Ground anytime soon.
Liverpool's interest in Murillo - who was snapped up for just £10million from Corinthians around 18 months ago - comes at a time where the future of their own first-choice central defenders are uncertain. Much has been made of Virgil van Dijk, who is out of contract at the end of the season. But Ibrahima Konate has also entered the final 18 months of his deal.
Join the debate! Would Murillo have been a good signing for Liverpool? Let us know here. The imperious Frenchman was offered fresh terms by the Reds at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. He has now confirmed, though, that he is yet to put pen to paper, meaning Liverpool could be sweating over another of their key defenders.
