Luke Littler couldn't contain his excitement after finally being followed by David Beckham on Instagram. The teenage sensation, himself a massive Manchester United fan, has seen his profile go through the roof over the past 12 months. His success at the World Darts Championship set him up for a stellar year and he's now among the best players in darts.

Littler was sent a good luck text by Beckham ahead of BBC's Sports Personality of the Year, but made it known that what he really wanted was a follow on social media. The England and United icon currently follows 635 people - and one of those is now Littler.

He posted a screenshot of his Instagram followers, showing that Beckham had finally followed him. It came after a sly dig where Littler made it known that the Inter Miami chief was yet to make his dream come true. Littler said: "He's not followed me though," as he addressed the text he received from Beckham, which he admitted was a "pinch me" moment.

The 17-year-old finished second in BBC's Sport Personality of the Year earlier this week. He was beaten by Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who dominated her event in Paris back in the summer. Littler though was named the BBC's Young Sports Personality of the Year.

He said: "It just goes to show how well I've done this year. But not only for myself changed the sport of darts [with] all the other professionals. But I have played a big part in it.". After his success at Ally Pally 12 months ago, where he was a beaten finalist, Littler was invited to the club's Carrington training ground. There he took on some of the current players and was able to meet Sir Alex Ferguson.
