Married At First Sight's Eliot Donovan has clapped back at critics following his controversial portrayal on the hit reality show. The 35-year-old business owner, who was paired with bride Lauren Hall on the show, admitted that 'it doesn't make sense' after finding himself at the centre of backlash after being labelled 'polarising' for his high expectations.
'I mean, people go on about what they want in a partner all the time – whether it's someone who "looks like they've done 20 to life" or has blue eyes and a big bum – but when I'm honest about my non-negotiables, it's suddenly controversial. That doesn't make sense to me,' he told Daily Mail Australia.
Eliot, who faced criticism for his so-called '1950s dream couple' ideal, admitted that while some of his comments were blown out of proportion, his intentions were often misunderstood. 'I looked at it like, there's lots of upside, not so much downside – why not take a gamble on it? I wanted to meet someone who shared my values, especially when it came to family and starting one of our own,' he added explained.
'They really leaned into the whole 1950s thing, which wasn't the whole story at all.'.
