Major chain restaurant shuts down flagship London site with no warning

TGI Fridays’s flagship store in Leicester Square has shut down leaving central London with no more outlets. The venue which serves American-diner style food has been closed for good, according to the Propel hospitality website. This is despite the site being one of 51 marked to stay open following a rescue takeover by Breal Capital and Calveton in October.
The restaurant chain collapsed into administration in September, throwing the fate of more than 3,000 hospitality workers into limbo. There are now no more open outlets in central London, but there are sites open in Westfield Stratford City, the O2 in Greenwich and Wembley Park.
The restaurant invested £3.5 million into their Leicester Square site at the end of 2015. They even went so far as to describe it as ‘Fridays jewel in London’s crown’. Following Breal Capital and Calveton’s takeover in October, they announced they would be shuttering 35 other restaurants with immediate affect.
