Marcus Rashford’s representatives have held initial talks with AC Milan about a potential loan move for the Manchester United forward, with a potential replacement already lined up. Rashford's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain with the player not getting much game time in recent weeks having been dropped from several matchday squads. Rashford himself also claimed he was ready for a "new challenge" as he spoke out on his situation.

A move overseas is most likely with United reluctant to hand Rashford to a domestic rival. Dwaine Maynard, the player's brother and agent, flew to Milan on Tuesday to hold discussions with those who head the recruitment at the Serie A side. Milan’s senior executive team were returning from Riyadh after claiming the Italian Super Cup.

Milan are well stocked in the forward line and their leading light, Rafael Leao, plays from the left, which is Rashford's preferred position. Christian Pulisic is another of their wide options meaning the United man would still face serious competition.

The 27-year-old currently earns more than £300,000-a-week and Milan would need the Premier League giants to heavily subsidise his salary before any deal could be agreed. That is likely to be the case for the majority of suitors with those across Europe not possessing the financial might of the Manchester outfit, who themselves are looking to slash their wage bill.

The Athletic has reported that Borussia Dortmund are also interested in potentially bringing in Rashford until the end of the season. The Bundesliga outfit 12 months ago bought in Jadon Sancho on loan and helped the winger revive his career after being out in the cold at United.
