Mathys Tel IS poised to join Tottenham before tonight's transfer deadline after a dramatic U-turn. It was reported last week that Tel, 19, was likely to have his pick of top Premier League clubs after informing Bayern Munich he wanted a move before the deadline. He rejected a move to Spurs, though, after they agreed terms on a £50million deal with the German giants. Tel was expected to move elsewhere before Monday night's deadline with Arsenal seemingly in pole position to land him - but the Frenchman will instead join Spurs on loan.

The news will come as a massive boost to Spurs head coach, Ange Postecoglou, who is in need of reinforcements. A breakthrough in talks for Tel comes after Tottenham hijacked Wolves' deal for Kevin Danso, with the centre-half instead putting pen to paper on a permanent deal with the Londoners over the weekend. News of Tel's decision was first revealed by Sky Sports Germany, with the youngster then seen aboard a private plane alongside his agent in snaps shared on social media.

It's expected he will join Spurs on a straight loan deal until the summer following a medical and some final bits of paperwork. Spurs have also been working on other deals in the days leading up to Monday night's transfer deadline, but they were frustrated in their bid to sign Fikayo Tomori and Axel Disasi from AC Milan and Chelsea respectively. Postecoglou was without nine first team players for Sunday's huge 2-0 win over Brentford but argued before the match that the club was still an attractive option for prospective signings.

He said: "It depends what the players are looking for. You can look at it two ways. OK the league form is not great but there's some pretty big possibilities to have success here in the last three or four months [of the season]. "It's still a big club, it's still a club that can challenge for honours and it's whether the player sees the potential that we see right now, or certainly that I see. If it's too much of a hard sell, it's probably not the right one for us.".
