The Met Office has warned Brits to expect another round of ferocious winds as it issues warnings for 60mph gusts. Forecasters have released a collection of new warnings this afternoon ahead of the landfall of what looks like another aggressively windy system that could see nearly gale force gusts blast at the UK coast. Dramatic new maps show more than a dozen areas could be left reeling over the next few days as the unstable weather conditions that have dominated the last few weeks look set to continue.

The yellow warnings have been issued in a large band crossing the Irish Sea from Wales to Northern Ireland and back to Scotland, meaning people living in three of the four home nations can expect disruption. The warnings will last several hours after they activate this morning, persisting through the evening and into tomorrow morning, impacting multiple services and modes of travel.

One warning states: "Southerly winds will strengthen through Tuesday afternoon, evening and night, with gales developing along some exposed coasts. Peak gusts of 40 to 50 mph are likely fairly widely inland, with perhaps 50 to 60 mph in more exposed places, including along some coasts.

"This may lead to some disruption to ferry crossings, with tricky travelling conditions possible on higher level and west-east routes. Winds will start to ease in Northern Ireland during the early hours of Wednesday, and then in many other areas around or after dawn." The primary expected fallout from the delays will be the impact on local travel, especially along the coast, where wind and spray will blow against travelling cars and ferry services.
