Brits have been told to prepare for dangerous gale-force winds as a new video showed exactly where 60mph gusts are expected to hit. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning covering the west coast of Wales, central Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland until 8am on Wednesday. A separate warning will also be in place for West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and much of the Pennines from 3am until 2pm tomorrow, with Leeds and Sheffield among the major cities affected.
Coastal areas are expected to be the worst hit, where wind speeds could be as high as 60mph. Weather-related disruption to travel is likely, including train, bus and ferry services. High-sided vehicles on exposed routes have been advised to take extra precautions, while closures to bridges are also likely, as seen recently across the Severn during Storm Darragh.
The warning from the Met Office reads: "Southerly winds will strengthen through Tuesday afternoon, evening and night, with gales developing along some exposed coasts. Peak gusts of 40-50 mph are likely fairly widely inland, with perhaps 50-60 mph in more exposed places, including along some coasts. This may lead to some disruption to ferry crossings, with tricky travelling conditions possible on higher level and west-east routes. Winds will start to ease in Northern Ireland during the early hours of Wednesday, and then in many other areas around or after dawn.".
It comes after another forecaster predicted "stormy" and snowy weather in the run-up to Christmas. Adverse conditions could sweep in as soon as this Sunday, according to James Madden from Exacta Weather, and potentially last through Christmas until December 28.
