Waking up to a frozen windscreen is the bane of many drivers' winter mornings, leading to an unavoidable delay when you're already pressed for time. To avoid a hefty penalty for driving with obscured visibility, ensuring your windscreen is entirely ice-free is a must, but that can add stress if you're in a hurry to be somewhere.

TikTok user @eden_tyres_and_servicing, West Midlands car maintenance whizzes, posted a clip and claimed: "Here is the best way to defrost your windscreen according to a former NASA engineer," hinting that throwing hot water on it isn't wise as it risks shattering the glass.

The first step is hopping into your vehicle and cranking the heater up high - "turn on the car heater immediately at full blast". Next, they recommend activating the air conditioning to "turn on the car's air conditioning, which will help soak up the remainder of any moisture inside" the car. Then, ensure you "turn off the car air circulation button," because this keeps the "humidity trapped inside".

The fourth tactic may surprise you: crack open "all of the car windows". You only need to open them "slightly," but be prepared that it will be a little chilly. "This will help exchange humidity in the car for the dry air that's outside, and voila, a nice defrosted windscreen," they concluded in the video.

In the comments, a suggestion emerged: "Also, put your sun visors down—it traps more of the hot air against the screen." Yet another viewer remarked that "this doesn't work" for their vehicle, indicating the method isn't foolproof and suitable for all vehicles.
