Netflix has just added a new film that is already being labelled as a 'perfect war movie' and which is based on a true story that 'everyone must watch.'. The film titled Number 24 was added to the streaming service on New Year's Day and less than week from being available to watch it has become one of the most watched titles on the platform. Released in cinema in 2024 in its native Norway, the film is now gaining a global audience thanks to Netflix.
It tells the true story of Gunnar Sønsteby who decides to resist the Nazis on the same day they invade his country. He becomes a key member of the Norwegian resistance movement, leading the Oslo Gang. The group undertook a number of acts of sabotage and Sønsteby went on to cement a legacy as Norway's greatest war hero. He wrote books about his life called Report from No.24.
While the film hasn't received enough critic reviews to earn a score on Rotten Tomatoes, it does have an impressive user rating of 96%. Those who have already seen the film as soon as it was added on January 1, have claimed it has set the bar high for films released this year. One fan review online claimed: "First movie of 2025. this was SO GOOD. They literally killed it with including exit music (for a film). IT WAS PERFECT.".
At the time of writing, Number 24 is currently fourth in the ten most watched films on Netflix. It sits behind both the Secret Life of Pets animated films and the streamer's festive action release Carry-On. It wouldn't be a surprise if it rises higher judging by the recommendations from film fans shared online. Many praised the true story it tells and claims it is a piece of history that everyone should be aware of.
