Netflix adds sequel to ‘inspiring’ British film based on incredible true story

Netflix viewers can now watch the sequel to a film that was praised by fans as an ‘uplifting underdog tale’. Released in 2023, Bank of Dave was based on the real-life experiences of Dave Fishwick, a self-made millionaire from Burnley. It starred Rory Kinnear in the title role and followed Dave’s efforts to set up a community bank to help the town’s local businesses to thrive.

However, he faced an uphill battle, taking on London’s elite financial institutions and competing to secure the first banking licence in more than 150 years. The original holds a 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where fans have called the movie a ‘superbly cast, feel good film’.

Up Next. This week the sequel hit screens. Set two years after Dave founded his back, he now ‘takes on the predatory payday lenders bringing misery to his small English town’. It follows Jessica (Chrissy Metz), an American investigative reporter, and Oliver (Amit Shah), a local Citizen’s Advice counsellor, teaming up with Dave to bring down predatory corporations that are preying on the poor and vulnerable.
