The Associated Press have publicly apologized after humiliating a legendary singer, songwriter, and record producer on the red carpet at the 2025 Grammy Awards. Babyface, whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, was swiftly dumped off by AP reporters Krysta Fauria and Leslie Ambriz at Los Angeles' Crypto.com Arena on Sunday evening after they spotted Chappell Roan arriving at the event. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday, the news agency posted: 'We are deeply sorry for cutting our interview with Babyface short on our YouTube livestream of the Grammys red carpet.
'We have apologized to him through his representative and to our viewers on the livestream,' they added. However, many people were unimpressed with the apology and quickly commented on the post. One person claimed: 'It was more than cutting short. Your reporter yelled over to Chappell WHILE STILL talking to Babyface. That is not 'cutting short' that is a complete disrespect. 'Pretty sure Grammys are putting you in the parking lot next year unless you hire people that are respectful to others,' they added.
Another X user wrote: 'Why don't you hire qualified journalist and not fans? And people upset over DEI. Come on @AP. You could have hired many qualified people that have the ability to interview everyone with their vast musical knowledge!'. Babyface, whose real name is Kenneth Brian Edmonds, was swiftly cut off by AP reporters mid-interview at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The reporters raced off to speak with Chappell Roan, 26, who is up for six Grammy Awards this year.
The Associated Press took to X on Monday morning and said they were 'deeply sorry' for what happened. A third person fumed: 'No. Y'all are done. There was horrible journalism and a ton of inappropriate behaviour from some of the other host as well.'. A fourth commented: 'Your people didnt cut the interview short. They very rudely and dismissively called out to Chapelle Roan while they were speaking with Babyface.
'It was shocking behavior and you still seem not to understand how offensive this was.'. Someone else pointed out: 'Cutting the interview short? She literally cut off Babyface mid-sentence to scream at Chappell Roan and she didn't even bother to apologize for interrupting the interview. 'Seriously, are you hiring high schoolers now? I've never seen such amateurism in my life. That's incredibly disrespectful. You should teach your staff how to do interviews properly,' they added.
A different person posted: 'Everyone needs to be fired, no one should be disrespecting Babyface, that man is a living legend.'. Another asked: 'Shameful. How did these two get this job? What are there qualifications?'. And someone else added: 'No one should be treated like that. Your journalists (if you can call them that), lack professionalism and class. So distasteful.'. Babyface has won 13 Grammy Awards throughout his career and has been named as one of the 50 best music producers of all time.
Chappell Roan, pictured arriving at the ceremony, won the Grammy for Best New Artist. Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian reacted to the gaffe and branded it as 'disrespectful'. Babyface, 62, has 26 Number 1 hits to his name along with 13 Grammys. He was also named as one of the 50 best music producers of all time in 2012. Upon witnessing the red carpet incident, Khloe Kardashian was among those to voice disappointment over the gaffe.
'This is so disrespectful how Babyface was treated in this interview. Babyface has had such a significant impact on the music industry, in sooo many ways,' she wrote. 'Its maddening to see a LEGEND not get the respect and attention they deserve. He is a pioneer and deserves so much better than this. 'With decades of groundbreaking work as a songwriter, producer, and performer, he's shaped the sound of multiple generations. I love you @babyface And I am a forever fan and thankful for all that you have blessed us with. By the way- what a class act you are.'.
She concluded: 'PS big or small, old or new, – you don't treat people like this. At least not in my eyes. There's a way to handle this and this was wrong in my opinion.'. The AP journalists were listening to the music icon's responses when one of them noticed Roan, 26, who WAS up for six Grammy Awards. Fauria, in mid-interview, started calling out to Chappell, as Babyface said with a smile, 'Go do that,' giving up his spot for the pop star (born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz).
