Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand fears that Ruben Amorim will make a huge mistake and sell Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho, 20, has been linked with a shock move from United to Premier League rivals Chelsea as well as Italian giants Napoli, with only six days of the January transfer window remaining. Speculation of his departure emerged after it was reported that Old Trafford chiefs would be willing to listen to offers for every member of their squad.
The Spanish-born Argentina international has continued to play under Amorim, starting four of United's last five matches in all competitions. But Garnacho's future remains uncertain as transfer deadline day (Monday, February 3) looms closer, and Ferdinand is worried about how his ex-club would cope without the youngster's speed and creativity, desperately urging Amorim to keep hold of him.
Asked if he was surprised that Garnacho could leave following Sunday's much-needed 1-0 win away to Fulham, Ferdinand admitted to TNT Sports: "I am. Where's that spark coming from in this team? He probably doesn't fit the profile of player that Ruben Amorim is used to having there.
"Alejandro Garnacho is an out-and-out winger but he's definitely someone who has an impact. He will have an impact in the game and create something wherever he plays. The kid normally finds a way to make an impact and he's out of the academy. Because of the financial rules clubs are being incentivise to sell homegrown talent and that should never be the case.
