Ruben Amorim has handed opportunities to four academy players in a bid to shake up Manchester United ’s training sessions. Amorim is still trying to work out which players he can rely on at United, having endured a difficult first few months in charge. The 39-year-old has won just four of his 12 matches so far and is currently on a four-match winless streak, although the last of those results was a much-improved 2-2 draw at Anfield against Liverpool.

Another tough test awaits on Sunday when United travel to north London to take on Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup. Newcastle became the first side to win at the Emirates Stadium since Aston Villa in April when they picked up a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night, underlining the nature of the task ahead of Amorim.

The United boss has decided to introduce youngsters Jack Moorhouse, Tyler Fredricson, Godwill Kukonki and Elyh Harrison to training at Carrington in the build-up to the match. The four academy players were spotted braving the cold on Wednesday alongside the regular first-team stars.

Harrison, an 18-year-old goalkeeper, was recently recalled from his loan spell at National League North side Chester and was thrown straight into the deep end to train with Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton. United want to give the young keeper more exposure behind now and the end of the season, while his return also gives them more cover in the eventuality that Bayindir leaves this month.

Moorhouse is a Manchester-born 19-year-old central midfielder who has primarily been playing for the under-21s side this season. He was nominated for the Premier League 2 player of the month award for December and has been rewarded with a chance to catch Amorim’s eye.
