Fans had been eagerly awaiting Scott Mills' official debut as new host of BBC Radio 2's breakfast show. However, his first efforts quickly divided opinion with some listeners slamming his "ego". Scott took the hot seat in the show following Zoe Ball's emotional exit after six years. And while he gave an emphatic speech before opening his segment with Robbie Williams' Rock DJ, some fans were less than impressed.
Taking to Twitter /X, one listener fumed Scott had made it all about himself rather than the show. They ranted: "Scott Mills started his breakfast show this morning it lived up to all expectations I will definitely not be listening again three hours of my life I'll never get back.".
Another disgruntled listener added: "Radio 2 needs to go back to the day's when they had producers like Malcolm Prince and the content of the show was the most important thing. Scott Mills ego is unbelievable. How much are they paying him." And a third wrote: "@scott_mills first show on @BBCRadio2 as expected all about him. All about his ego. I'd love to know how much the publicly funded BBC have thrown at this supposedly special first show. Just play the songs with limited, relevant & appropriate chat please.".
Despite some pushback on his efforts, other fans were loving his first show. One user gushed: "A fantastic first @scott_mills #BBCRadio2 Breakfast show this morning. Joyous and totally feel good radio from start to finish. Loved the Easiest Quiz On The Radio + Stockport being renamed "Scottport" OBSESSED! Great first song choice as well.".
