An upcoming horror film described by viewers as 'sadistic' has just been given the seal of approval from genre veteran Stephen King. The best-selling author whose terrifying stories have inspired countless film and TV adaptations has become an authority for many on the releases that are guaranteed to leave you sleeping with a light on. Among his most recent recommendations was the 2024 hit, Late Night with the Devil which has a near-perfect critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and counts pop icon Ariana Grande among its fans.
Now, King has given his blessing to an upcoming film he has branded 'b*****t insane'. Taking to social media, the veteran author penned: "You've never seen anything like The Monkey. It's b*****t insane. As someone who has indulged in b*********y from time to time, I say that with admiration.".
Flocking to the comments section, fans were quick to share their reaction to the author's expletive-laden review. One shared they had watched The Monkey trailer "15 or 16 times already", as another film buff said: "Never forget he [King] hated The Shining hahaha.".
"Possibly my most anticipated film of 2025," another film fan shared, as one cynic added: "His endorsement means nothing at this point but this one does look pretty damn good.". The Monkey is an adaptation of King's 1980 short story of the same title. The film adaptation is produced by James Wan, famed for the The Conjuring and Saw, with Longlegs director Osgood Perkins on board as writer and director.
According to The Monkey's official synopsis: "When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.".
