Terrifier 4 is officially in the works and it looks like it could clear up one huge question horror fans have had about the record-breaking films. Damien Leone’s beloved and bloody horror franchise began with 2008 short film The 9th Circle, which introduced the world to the maniacal Art the Clown who has hacked and slashed his way across the fictional Miles County ever since. Following anthology horror All Hallows Eve, the first Terrifier film was released in 2016 and followed by its 2022 sequel which gained worldwide attention thanks to its gratuitous gore which made people vomit and even faint during screenings.
Terrifier 3 was released last year with a Christmas twist, quickly breaking records for the franchise and raking in more than $89 million (£71 million) at the global box office. A fourth sequel was revealed during Leone’s appearance at the third film’s Fantastic Fest premiere, but the filmmaker has now officially confirmed Terrifier 4 is in production. He shared the news with a picture on his Instagram page celebrating his birthday, which showed the front page of the latest film’s script – splattered with blood, of course.
‘Thank you all so much for the amazing birthday wishes,’ Leone wrote in the caption. ‘I’m truly blessed to know so many wonderful human beings. ‘I might as well take advantage of this day and give all of the Terrifier fans a little present in return – The script for Terrifier 4 is under way and it is shaping up to be the most epic, horrifying, thrilling, emotional and satisfying conclusion to the Terrifier saga.
‘I’ve personally never been so excited to see one of my own scripts translate to the screen like this one.’. Despite sadly seeming to confirm this could be the last Terrifier film we get, Leone did reveal it will answer the biggest question fans have had since the film’s began. ‘P.S. I will finally reveal Art’s origin in this entry 😉🤡 Thank you all again 🙏🎂🎉,’ he concluded.
Since being introduced in Leone’s short films all the way through to Terrifier 3, Art has not spoken a single word. As such, fans of the franchise have very little information about where the iconic horror villain – played by David Howard Thornton – came from or what his motives are.
He clearly has supernatural powers, and we’ve been given glimpses of a hellish underground world which links to Art underneath the Miles County fairground ride known as the Terrifier. In the third film, Sienna’s (Lauren LaVera) niece Gabbie (Antonella Rose) disappeared into the abyss, with Sienna vowing to find her after injuring Art with her magical sword, so it could be that this is finally where we learn about the monochrome menace’s inception.
Terrifier 3 shocked fans worldwide, with critics labelling it ‘genunely gruesome’, ‘deliciously torturous’, and ‘chaotic and blood-soaked.’. It currently holds a 78% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Terrifier 2 sitting at 87% and Terrifier at 62%. Just like the second installment, Terrifier 3 saw critics walk out of its London premiere due to the graphic and shocking violence within, while other screenings had cinemagoers vomiting.
Cineworld is going all out for the release of Wicked, and we couldn’t be more excited. Terrifier 1 and 2 are available to stream for free on Tubi. Got a story?.
