THE east meets the west coast this Burns Day as a popular Japanese restaurant launches a Scots sushi menu. From today diners can try out the likes of teriyaki haggis nigiri alongside their usual Asian favourites. The fusion feast has been put together by chiefs at popular conveyor belt restaurant Yo! along with the creative minds at Irn-Bru.

And it comes as the fizzy drink favourites carried out research that revealed only one in seven Scots actually enjoy haggis while a fifth think Burns day is too traditional. Kenny Nicholson, Head of Brand at Irn-Bru, said: “We’re once again putting our own cheeky twist on Burns, inviting people to celebrate the occasion in new and exciting ways.

"These BRU-nique treats have been crafted in collaboration with the team at YO! and we can’t wait for diners to try them.”. Six Yo! restaurants across the UK will be serving up the quirky combos, which also include haggis and prosciutto sushi rolls and haggis Katsu curry, each paired with a can of Bru.

They’ll be available in Glasgow’s West George Street and Braehead branches, Edinburgh’s Princes Street restaurant and Aberdeen’s Union Square eaterie, as well as in Liverpool One and London Selfridges until February 16. Samantha Kemp, Marketing Director at  YO! said: “YO! is delighted to join forces with Irn-Bru to offer up a truly unique sushi experience, using haggis as the main ingredient.
