Top Tech: Virgin Media shares urgent warning as winter sale countdown begins

We may be in the first week of February, but there’s still plenty of January sale savings on offer if you know where to look. While the likes of Sky and EE have already ended their latest round of festive deals, Virgin Media is giving shoppers slightly longer to bag a bargain – but don’t hang around. Virgin’s winter sale is due to expire this week, with its TV and broadband deals expiring at 11.59pm on Wednesday, February 5. The brand has now posted a timer that’s ticking down to the deadline, alongside a warning to customers which reads: “Our winter sale is wrapping up soon. Don’t miss out.”.
Until Wednesday, Virgin’s TV and broadband packages – all of which run for 18 months – start at £33 per month for the entry-level Bigger Combo bundle, which comes with more than 200 TV channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband. While this may be fast enough for most households, Virgin also offers the same plan with its Gig1 Fibre Broadband option, which delivers speeds of 1,130Mbps. All of Virgin’s TV packages come with premium channels – including some of Sky’s most popular – such as Sky Showcase, Sky Max, Comedy Central, National Geographic, alongside free to air channels like BBC and ITV. But one thing to consider is that Virgin does not offer Sky Atlantic, which is home to hit HBO shows like The Penguin, The Last of Us and The White Lotus.
However, Sky does include plans that include both Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, with the Biggest Combo bundle the ideal choice for sport and film fans. This option currently starts at £69 if you go for the 516Mbps broadband, rising to £73 for 1,130Mbps. The latter option also includes a subscription to Netflix Standard with ads, which usually costs £4.99 when signing up directly. While £73 per month is certainly a pricey package, this does include more for your money than lower cost plans.
With this, members get more than 210 TV channels including Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, Netflix and 1,130Mbps fibre broadband. However, as always at this time of year, Virgin has announced it is to increase its prices in April, with this plan set to rise to £76.50 a month from April 2025. But if you’re happy with your current broadband setup, it’s also worth taking a look at the latest Sky Glass sale. While most of Sky’s January sale deals have now ended, its Sky Glass discount remains, with prices reduced by £96 across the board.
