As millions of Brits head on their festive jollies on "Frantic Friday", the Met Office has delivered a crucial verdict on whether we'll see a White Christmas this year. According to the AA, 23.7million drivers are expected to travel on Friday alone, with a further 22.7million likely to hit the roads on Saturday and Monday. Brits are being warned to expect travel chaos and delays on the motorways prompting the AA to issue several amber traffic warnings.

Meanwhile, railway engineering works will take place at Liverpool Street, Paddington, and St Pancras over Christmas and New Year, causing possible delays for commuters. Fortunately, travel conditions will be settled for many holiday commuters overnight Friday into Saturday, according to the Met Office.

However, this period of calm will be pushed aside, as an area of low pressure tracks to the north of the UK bringing wet and widely windy weather into the weekend. Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: “A deep area of low pressure is expected to pass to the north of Scotland on Saturday, heading towards southwest Norway. "Yellow wind warnings are currently in place across northern and western parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, where there’s a small chance of gusts in excess of 80mph across parts of the Hebrides, Orkney, and parts of the north and west Scottish mainland coast. Delays or cancellations to sea and air transport are possible given these winds, amongst other impacts.
