If you’ve found your air fryer is noisy, doesn’t cook certain foods properly or has burnt your kitchen worktop - you’re not alone. The air fryer has taken the UK by storm as the latest kitchen gadget to save time and money. Fans of the appliance love their versatility and the health benefits thanks to being able to cook with less oil and fat, therefore reducing the amount of fat and calories in food.
TV chefs have embraced them and adapted traditional recipes to show audiences how dishes that are normally oven cooked can be prepared in an air fryer in less time and often with better results. Many customers even claim they barely use the ovens in their kitchens now they have their new toys - even cooking their Sunday roast in them.
However, they aren’t without their issues so consumer magazine Which? asked regular users of the air fryer for their positive and negative feedback. They discovered that most people loved the fact it reduced the amount of time it takes to prepare dishes, perfect for our busy lives.
The health aspect was clearly a big hit too, with a lot less oil being used for when preparing food such as fish and chips. This also means there are less greasy pans to wash up afterwards. But some users found their air fryers were also awkward to clean. One said the basket on their Lidl Silvercrest model was difficult to wash and eventually the catch broke.
Another consumer found the drawer became gungy so they started using a silicone liner to help prevent the issue. Which? advises care when choosing an air fryer to help with cleaning issues. "An air fryer isn’t a time-saver if it takes you hours to clean," they write. "If you’re lucky enough to own a dishwasher, be sure to choose one with dishwasher-safe parts.".
