World Darts Championship star aiming for Rob Cross upset forced Sky Sports into apology

Scott Williams is gearing up to face ex-world champion Rob Cross - a year on from forcing Sky Sports to apologise at the PDC World Darts Championship. Williams secured his showdown with Cross by beating German competitor Niko Springer on Thursday (December 19). Despite a shaky start as 'Shaggy' lost the first set, he rebounded in style to clinch a 3-1 win and advance.
The world number 37 made a surprise run to the semi-finals last year, delivering a major upset when he took down Michael van Gerwen. But it was his post-match remarks after a nail-biting third-round match against Germany's Martin Schindler that saw Sky Sports saying sorry to their audience.
During a live post-match interview, Williams said: "I've never had the crowd on my side like that. I know we won two World Wars and one World Cup but that was... the German fans in here were huge.". LOVE THE DARTS? Get your ultimate World Darts Championship preview now.
Sky later expressed regret for Williams' choice of "offensive language". Afterwards, Williams came forward with his own statement prior to his fourth-round victory over Damon Heta. "I was advised to come off social media, just X, what I said in the last interview on stage was stupid, genuinely stupid. The guys from Germany know I love Germany," Williams wrote. "My deepest apologies to anyone who took offence, I have had a lot of messages from people who haven't taken offence, but that has gone now and I am looking forward to Monday.".
Despite the incident, Williams was gaining popularity at Ally Pally - notably for pulling off a 'no-look' 180 and even trying to karate chop a wasp on stage during his road to the semi-finals. He replicated his maximum trick against Springer this week.
