Players wanting to jump into a brand-new fantasy RPG will find exactly what they're looking for when the Avowed release date arrives next week. It’s been a long time coming, but it finally seems like Xbox is on track to bring a steady stream of first-party releases to its current-gen console platform this year. Case in point: Avowed. The latest RPG from legendary genre developer Obsidian Entertainment casts players as an envoy who must explore an area known as The Living Lands in an effort to stop the spread of a virus called Dreamscourge. You’ll team up with multiple quirky companions along the way, all while learning more about yourself and where you fit in the world amongst all the interspecies politics. The good news is that the Avowed release date is just around the corner.
Avowed is set to launch on both PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles only, meaning players with a PS5 will likely need to wait before jumping into this colourful fantasy world. That said, with news that Forza Horizon 5 would be hitting PlayStation later this year (via Twitter), there’s every chance that Avowed may be released elsewhere later down the line. For now, however, we’ve got all the details you need regarding the official Avowed release date concerning the two main platforms it is confirmed to launch on. Here’s when you can start playing.
The Avowed release date is February 18, 2025, on both Xbox consoles and PC. That means there’s only another week to go, at the time of writing, before players on these platforms can start casting spells and thwacking lizard creatures using swords within what promises to be a wholly unique fantasy universe that stands separately from the likes of Dragon Age and The Elder Scrolls. If you simply can’t wait to dive in, though, players who pre-order the Premium Edition can fire up Avowed almost a week earlier, with early access beginning on Thursday, February 13. Avowed’s Premium Edition also includes access to two skin packs, plus the game’s digital art book and soundtrack.
Regardless of whether you dive in on the official or early access release date, Avowed looks to be a breath of fresh air within the fantasy RPG realm. It’s currently a rather crowded time for the genre, given we just had Dragon Age: The Veilguard launch before Christmas, and then the highly anticipated Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 just a few weeks ago. That said, it launching directly onto Xbox Game Pass should hopefully give it an edge. Here’s hoping that Avowed does enough different to stand out from the pack, rewarding the patience of Xbox players everywhere who have been waiting for a blockbuster first-party title.
