Over the festive period, I left my home for a mere few days to join in the family celebrations, writes Katherine McPhillips from Express.co.uk. Upon my return, I was taken aback to find my peace lily on the brink of death. Despite watering it before my departure and finding all my other indoor plants in good health, I was baffled by its rapid wilting.

The plant had sufficient water, sunlight, and I knew how to fertilise it properly. However, after spending a few hours scouring the internet, I realised that I had unwittingly placed it in the worst possible spot in my home. In my haste to tend to my other plants before leaving, I had positioned my peace lily right next to a window and a radiator, exposing it to cold and dry conditions.

Peace lilies are tropical plants that naturally flourish at the base of rainforest floors, meaning they thrive in warm, humid environments with low light. Its proximity to the radiator caused the peace lily to dehydrate quickly, while being pressed against the chilly window pane resulted in temperature shock.

Although my peace lily was in a sorry state, I was fairly confident I could revive it, given their dramatic nature - they can wilt even if you're just a day late with watering. If your peace lily has wilted, my top tip is to be patient and continue caring for it, as these robust plants often recover on their own.

To breathe life back into my wilting peace lily, I started by giving it a good soak to rehydrate the parched soil, taking care not to wet the drooping leaves, reports the Express. I then relocated it to my bathroom, where the steam from the shower would create a warm and humid environment conducive to its recovery.
