Former Top Gear star Jeremy Clarkson has set the record straight following a tense moment during the ITV Who Wants to be a Millionaire Celebrity Special featuring Fred Sirieix. At one nail-biting juncture, Fred, aged 53, was almost left with nothing after fumbling on the initial question. The question was, "Which of these is a method for staying afloat in a swimming pool? Treading water, drinking water, boiling water or passing water? " Clarkson queried, to which the celebrated maitre d' appeared visibly baffled as he echoed "treading water" and "passing water" In a state of perplexity, Sirieix resorted to invoking his 50/50 lifeline, which regrettably didn't clarify things as much as hoped. A concerned Clarkson commented: "Ah. Do you know what, I'm going to put you out of MY misery.".

In an attempt at resolution yet also diverting the film crew's attention, Jeremy interjected: "Treading water is that, as you rightly say," while mimicking the motion. This prodding did the trick; Fred got it right and ultimately raised a commendable £64,000 for The Right Course, his charity choice dedicated to helping prisoners integrate back into society through hospitality work.

Viewers of the ITV gameshow were quick to criticise Jeremy for assisting Fred, with one user tweeting: " Is that allowed @JeremyClarkson is giving away the answer on #Millionaire". Jeremy responded: "Not really. But it was for charity and it was low down the ladder.Responding to his comment, fans rushed to Clarkson's defence with one saying: ". Fans quickly came to Clarkson's defence, with one commenting: "I agree hats off to you Jeremy was a lovely thing to do as Fred was struggling with English terminology. Many were surprised that Fred didn't know the answer to the £100 question, with one viewer saying: "Can't believe you didn't know £100 question, how much time do you spend at swimming pools.".

Another added: "Fred your daughter spends half her life in the swimming pool...! ! ! " Fred himself thanked the show on Twitter, saying: "Thanks so much for having me. The money will make a big difference in our quest to train, educate and upskill offenders in one of our training restaurants.". Last year, Jeremy underwent an emergency heart operation due to a "sudden deterioration" in his health, which doctors warned could have left him with "maybe" just days to live. The former Top Gear star described feeling extremely weak during a holiday, finding it difficult to swim or climb stairs.

(But) I dislike discomfort, loathe bicycles and find gyms and everyone in them weird. I decided I'd give Pilates a bash.".
