However, while we’re waiting for any details about that chilling cliffhanger and where Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) rollercoaster return to the games goes from here, TV bosses did speak out over one bizarre casting rumor concerning Leonardo DiCaprio.

Social media went wild with speculation that the Titanic actor, 50, had landed a surprise role in the upcoming final series of the gripping drama. Things ramped up this week when a report by South Korean publication Osen claimed that he secretly filmed scenes last year – with all details kept under wraps so no spoilers got out.

According to the outlet, via the Tab, it was alleged that his ‘amount of screen time will not be long’, but no further details were shared. A spokesperson for Netflix quickly poured ice cold water on the reports, telling Soompi: ‘The rumors are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game Season 3 are entirely unfounded.’.

We’re not entirely sure where the rumors first came from, or even why, but Leo randomly popping up to take on the tug-of-war, or having a go at the honeycomb challenge would make for iconic TV. Hwang Dong-hyuk – who is behind the acclaimed series – was previously asked about the prospect of a Hollywood star making a cameo in upcoming episodes, and did jokingly mention the Oscar-winner.
