Martin Keown has made a new Premier League title prediction as Arsenal continue to fight Liverpool for this season’s top-flight trophy. The Gunners won 3-1 at Brentford on New Year’s Day, moving up to second in the table and closing the gap to Arne Slot’s leaders.

Victory over the Bees means Arsenal are now just six points behind Liverpool, although it should be noted that the Reds have a game in hand. Arsenal have come agonisingly close to landing the last two Premier League trophies, narrowly missing out to Manchester City both times.

Speaking on TNT Sports before Arsenal’s win over Brentford, Gunners icon Keown explained why he thinks his old club will fall short once again. ‘We want Arsenal to finally win the league – but it looks like Liverpool are going to do that,’ Keown said.

‘I was disappointed Chelsea fell away in the last two games. A three-horse race makes it better. ‘But the quality of [Luis] Diaz, [Cody] Gakpo up top, Arsenal need to find a little bit more up top.’. Despite believing that Liverpool will land this season’s Premier League title, Keown does admit that Arsenal have at least ‘sent a message’ to the Reds.

Speaking after Arsenal beat Brentford, Keown added: ‘They picked up the intensity, that’s a strong signal from this team. ‘They’re alive and kicking, still in this race. At half time the manager would have had a few words. ‘They showed good character and personality and in the second half showed their class.
